Ilex x altaclerensis Golden KingR.H.S. Award of Garden Merit. The almost spine-free leaves of this decorative holly have a conspicuous golden margin and are complemented by bright red berries in autumn. Very tolerant of air pollution. Height and Spread: 300cm x 240cm (10ft x 8ft) in 10 years. Position: Thrives in any moist soil. Plant in sun for best foliage colour. Protect from frost until established. Planting: Water thoroughly before planting. Plant in hole large enough to avoid disturbing root ball. Back-fill with soil previously mixed with peat substitute and a suitable fertilizer. Plant Care: If used in hedging the ideal size is 2.4m x 1.5m (8ft x 5ft). Prune once in August.
